1. The Eco-light energy audit :

• Ecodev will visit your home and by means of a detailed inspection, define the various areas where you could be making your home more energy efficient and thereby saving on expensive fuel bills.
• We analyse areas such as electricity usage, insulation, heating methods, air tightness and the physical structure of your home.
• In order to provide this cheaper service, we will not be providing a detailed written report and would recommend that clients make notes of the recommendations discussed on site.
• Improvements can now be made prior to BER certification to achieve a better energy rating.

2. The Eco-audit :

• Ecodev will visit your home and through detailed inspection, define the various areas where you could be making your home more energy efficient and thereby saving money.
• We will analyse areas such as electricity usage, insulation type and thickness, heating methods, air tightness and the physical structure of your home.
• Ecodev will then draw up a detailed and bespoke energy improvement report. This will indicate what effect each proposed improvement will have on energy efficiency as well as a future BER rating and thereby allow clients to pick and choose from the list, depending on their budget, timing and overall objective.
• This essentially allows for a master plan approach to energy improvements where every task completed is part of the overall plan and can be completed over a longer time period.
• Home owners not selling or renting their home (immediately), but wanting to improve comfort levels and reduce their running costs would benefit most from this package.

3. The Self-build energy improvement audit:

• It is essential that the building specification is correct before starting to build. What is often a small improvement on paper, prevents large, expensive retrofits on site.
  These need not be major external changes. Even minor internal changes could make a difference to the energy efficiency, especially to the “plan from a book” designs.
• For example, adding the wrong type or quantity of insulation or placing it in the incorrect manner can reduce or cancel out the fact that it is there.
• Do the proposed heating solutions work together or are you wasting money on the chosen combination.
• What are your expectations with the build? Will you benefit from solar gain. Will solar panels work on your proposed design? Have you missed a small trick that can make or break the complete energy efficiency package?
• These are some of the issues that a trained eye can identify and then suggest alternatives/solutions as needed.
• Building/extending will probably be the most expensive thing you do, so before starting, get some peace of mind that the build will work as expected.
• Ecodev will analyse the plans and any specification documentation supplied and provide a detailed energy efficiency improvements report as well as recommended changes/improvements and reasons for these.

4. Building Specification Improvement Reports:

As for the self-build project, it is essential that the building specification is correct before starting to build. What is often a small improvement on paper, prevents large, expensive retrofits on site.

Small changes (even internal ones) could result in an improved energy rating because of the way that the DEAP software analyses buildings.

Ecodev will analyse the building plans and the specification documentation and ensure that the building components work together efficiently. We will then suggest improvements that could be made. These will be itemised in a detailed report. The potential energy rating improvement that each can accomplish will be noted, so that informed decisions can be made as to which improvements to make.

Whilst improvements are always a good idea, nothing works like designing it right the first time.
